My Favorite Place

My favorite is Highland Park which is a suburb outside Chicago and it's where my grandparnets live. When I was little my grandpa Dan was the mayor and we would go up for the 4th of July and be in the parade. They have the best pizza there and lake Michigan is so pretty. We would go into Chicago and go to the American Girl Store which is a store were you can buy these beautiful dolls. We would have tea and sometimes go to a play and it was always a lot of fun.

Terrorist attacks

Terrorists attack the U.S. just like they do any other country. The most known one was probably 9/11 2001 when some terrorists flew a plane into the world trade towers and at the pentagon. These events killed a lot of people and is very sad event in American history. National Security does a lot to try and make sure nothing of that magnitude happens to the U.S. ever again. I'm sure they have all types of ways of protecting the country of any threat.

Immigrants

The United States was established by immigrants and there are still plenty of people who still come to the U. S. today. Because of the opportunity the U.S. represents to some, their are those who don't have the means to come here legally. So of course we have illegal immigrants here. They mostly come from Mexico and other Latin America countries. They come to our country for jobs, health care, and simply a better life for themselves and their family.
Most immigrants from Mexico come to southern states such as Texas and California. Some people think that these illegal immigrants take jobs and make it harder for the U.S. born citizens to get jobs. But this is simply untrue. They take jobs that most Americans don't want and they simple help our economy not destroy it.

My School

Ok so Anderson is a high school with about 800 freshmen or 9th graders. It looks like a prison from the front drive. There's about 6 doors and these little windows that give the inside very light. The adcemdics building has 3 floors and on each floor there are lockers on the north and south areas of the floor. On the east and west are different different types of classes. On the first we have Science and electives. On the second is Social Studies and Math, on the third is Language Arts and Foreign Languages. Anderson offers Chinese, German, French, Spanish, and Latin. We have a wide diversity of people in our school including foreign exchange students from Brazil, France, and Russia I think. It's a pretty cool school we have pep rallies which are a lot of fun and all sorts of clubs and atletic activities. We actually won our home coming game against Bastop last night which is pretty cool. Tonight the Orchestra held their yearly "Monster Ball" which is where we play songs like The Monster Mash and the theme from Pirates of the Carribean and anyone can come and have cookies and take part in the costume contest as well as face painting and lots of other fun stuff. Tommorow night we have our Homecoming dance were any student can go and have fun with friends and it's at a hotel.

Summer

Ok so this summer I actually had a lot of fun going to a lot of camps and just hanging out with friends. The first camp I went to was an orchestra camp at the University of Texas, we stayed in the dorms and played for 6 hours a day. I stayed in a room with my friend Sara who plays violin and I think I might have driven a little crazy. I made 7th chair in the top orchestra which was really excited about because i really messed up on the auditions. The day before the concert we had a dance where I got to see some of my friends who lived near Houston and who I hadn't seen in a year. On day of the concert we always eat BBQ in the parking garage across the street which might seem kinda weird but it's a lot of fun. It's also a camp tradition that the camp cousnlers to go around at 5:00 a.m. and play the eyes of Texas on thier insruments which isn't very nice.
Lutherhill day camp was next. That's a camp my church has almost every year for kids from kindergarten to fifth grade. We get counslers from Lutherhill which is a camp in west Texas (I think) and they basically teach songs and activaties and then the teens at church help out as well. I got put with Mary Ellen who was in charge of 2nd graders and i must say they were probably the best group ever because they're old enough to do things by themselves but they also let you do silly things and make finger puppets without giving attitude.
Choir camp was in San Macros which I guess is about 1 hour from Austin. Here we the all-state/region music for this year. This camp was only for 4 days and the campus was under construction so it was hard to get around. I sang the 2nd soprano part and we had this really nice teacher who made us laugh alot. The songs are really pretty too I escepically love Daniel.
At the end of the July my parnets had a big party and 3 of my uncles came and so did my grandparents and a lot of family friends. The week before the party was so hectic but the party was so much fun and then the next day I went to the beach with my friend Margaret and her family. When we were there we swam a lot and buried our friend Nick in the sand he couldn't get out. For the rest of the summer i just hung out with my friends and enjoyed a little bit of time when I could sleep in.

First Entry

Hey my name is Catherine and I live in Austin, Texas. I am a freshman and I'm in all Pre AP, which is crazy. I have so much work to do and it's driving nuts. I really love music. I play viola in the Orchestra, I'm 4th chair. I'm also in choir where I sing 2nd Soprano and Alto sometimes. I hang out with my friends on the weekend and we go to all sorts of places and do really weird things. Last weekend we went to a science lecture which was kinda boring. It was about how ice is melting because of global warming. It really made me want to go sledding. Then we went to the Arboremtom which is a shopping center where they have an amazing ice cream place called Amy's. After ice cream we went and climbed on these stone cows which might sound weird but it's what you have to do if you go to Amy's.My friends are amazing we always have the so much fun. There's Katie who's in this group and Margaret, Olivia, Allison, and Claire.

I was born on March 10, 1994 and I was in San Antonio. When I was a baby I was adopted by my parnets and have lived with ever since. I have a little sister who in 7th grade, her name is Ellen and sometimes she can be a pain but i still love her. My mom is a substitute teacher and my dad works at Freescale where he makes computer chips or something like that.
I'm a little absent minded and quite clumsy. I'm excited to do this pen pal type thing. It seems like it will be a lot of fun and that we'll meet a lot of new people and learn more about different types of cultures. So thanks for reading. Sorry if I rambled.
